Art Therapy with Ellen

Offering 1-1 online Art therapy
to help you navigate life with chronic illness

Welcome! I'm so glad you are here.

Living with a chronic illness is hard isn't it? The experience is ongoing and dynamic. Alongside physical issues such as pain or fatigue, you may have times when you feel frustrated, sad or worried. Navigating the unpredictability of illness and adjusting to new health limits can make life feel a bit smaller too.

I'm sure I don't need to rhyme off all the ways chronic illness may impact a person and lead to anxiety or low mood.

You know all too well what it is like for you.

Having a chronic illness diagnosis myself, I too know the struggle and the limits that illness can force you to live within. It isn't always terrible but it isn't easy either.

Obviously I can't offer anything to take the illness away, but I can offer my skills as an Art psychotherapist. I have poured my heart into this profession and it keeps giving back. I know it can give you something special too.

So if you have been thinking of starting therapy for a while but things have gotten in the way, I understand.

There is no time like the present and I am glad you are here now.

Although you may have a chronic illness it isn't the only thing that defines you. In14 years of practice I have earned some useful skills to help with most issues you might be facing.

Perhaps you can relate to one or more of these:

  • feeling stuck

  • relationship or friendship difficulties

  • loss

  • struggling to sleep

  • lack of confidence

  • avoidance

  • worries about the future

  • social anxiety

  • self image

  • anger

Whether its a recent diagnosis or something you have managed for years, having a chronic illness can add extra challenges to life.

Dealing with physical symptoms or flare ups can mean that your mental wellbeing can sometimes get pushed down the list of priorities. This is where I can help.

Therapy is a good place to look at some of the ways your life has been impacted by your health. A place to be completely honest. No forced smile required.

We might use the sessions to think about the stress of having to manage this condition on top of everything else.

Or how hard it is to set boundaries with ourselves and others especially when they don't fully understand.

We can reflect upon how difficult it can be to adjust to treatments but no cure. Or we could just explore any worries you might have about the future.

I know that it is frustrating to be changed by illness and sometimes it doesn't feel fair.

There are times we all need a safe place to look at mixed up feelings. â€‹â€‹â€‹So no matter what you bring to our sessions I will  acknowledge what you are really going through and I will encourage your creativity because honestly, it can help.

If coming to Art therapy can free up some space in your mind and help you to use your imagination positively then wouldn't that be something worth trying?

I will encourage your creativity
because it can help
